Horrible things happen every day. Being from Virginia, with a younger brother and many friends who attended Virginia Tech, this particular horrible thing has been on my mind a lot. So I’m joining in a small effort to honor the victims today.

Every time I run across an old picture like this, I get sad.

This picture is actually double sad because I miss my old house too, but what really gets my attention is the shoes. I loved those shoes. I got them for $4.95 in the clearance section at Target. They were the cheapest, most comfortable, and cutest shoes I’ve ever had. I could walk in them for miles with no socks on and never get a blister.
I finally had to give them up when I wore a hole in one of the soles, but they were perfect right up until then. I’ve bought half a dozen pairs of black maryjanes since then, all more expensive, and none of them are half as awesome.

This is the last of the crafty projects I completed while Ben was in NYC. I’ve hardly made a thing since, so thank goodness for backlog.
I posted a while ago about how much I love Nikki McClure’s calendars. I got inspired and started recycling my 2006 one into 3×5 flat cards, matching envelopes, and even a couple CD sleeves for a gift (A - your CDs are coming, really! I plead technical difficulties and beg your patience).
Below is my favorite set of cards & envelopes and it actually includes a couple pieces from this year’s calendar. Yup, I’ve already started recycling 2007. I’m a freak!

Yesterday I tried to blog a picture from Flickr and invite folks to see my new San Francisco & APE photo set. That post was here, wasn’t it? Did anyone else see it? Cuz it’s not here now and it’s not in my RSS feed or anywhere else, and I have no clue how or why. Sometimes I’m just not the geek I want to be.
Ben and I both have various reasons to suspect that we may have wheat allergies or intolerance. So we’ve decided to go two weeks without eating wheat.
He’s already been wheatless for two days. I’ve been toe-in-the-pond girl, making little exceptions each day. After all, did I really have a choice yesterday about eating the last cupcake (okay, and a half) from Ben’s birthday?
But they’re all et up now and the two weeks began today. We’re just cutting out wheat, not gluten altogether. We can still have spelt bread, which I’ve recently discovered makes yummy toast. But no wheat in pasta, bread, or anything else.
Day 1
Tomorrow green vegetables! Seriously. I’ve got kale and broccoli and plenty of salad to redeem me in the coming days from the carb fest that was today.
In other news, I took a yoga class today and got a one month pass at Samarya. I’m so inspired by the classes I took in San Francisco, and I know it’s worth it to get my yogini on more consistently.
Ben: Are you blogging?
Me: Yeah.
Ben: You were typing like you were blogging. [he demonstrates me focused intently on the screen and typing furiously with a vague groovy smile on my face and a slight head bob]
Me: *LOL*
Ben: When you’re writing other stuff, you type slower and your expression is a little more uncertain. It’s methodical - plodding to some degree.
This weekend is my second annual San Francisco getaway weekend. Sweetie got his trip to NYC. We went to Portland together last weekend. Now it’s my turn. (And then we put some serious brakes on the spending!)
I’m staying at this hotel on Union Square.
You see it, right? The LUSH shop right next door? That was a deciding factor. I’m planning a weekend of geeking out all day at APE and various bookstores and museums. I’m going to try to fit in at least one drop-in yoga class, and see if I can get one of the professional reflexology sessions I need to get my certification. At night I’ll chow down at awesome restaurants, soak in the tub with some brand new bath bombs, and lounge on the bed eating chocolate, reading, and watching crappy movies. Heaven!
I now have a new camera of my very own, so I’ll be able to share my adventures with you and start actually posting pictures to my Flickr account.
I’m still trying to get over my guilt about being out of town on Ben’s birthday weekend. His actual birthday is tomorrow and I’m planning to spoil him rotten. But he’ll be having a birthday party this weekend and I’ll be off indulging myself. Bad life partner! On the other hand, he practically twisted my arm to buy the tix for this trip, and the other partygoers have promised to drunk dial me with a report so I guess it’ll be okay.
Wire is one of my favorite things to craft with. Books are my favorite things.
So obviously…

These are prototypes, and I think I’m going to snaz them up with some glass beads at some point, but I’m showing them off anyway.
I had some kinky springy wire I’d saved from a couple different spiralbound booklets (presentations from jobs I used to have). I just twisted it around and futzed with it and cinched it with my ever-handy needlenose pliers until it held the plants securely to the fence. Easy peasy. And with a little more practice I’m sure it could be tidier too.

Finally some early stage garden shots!
Rosemary & anemones.

Daffodils and pineapple mint with thyme on the left.
